Background The Insular Bureau of Public Lands was created by virtue of Act 218 on September 2, 1901 placing it under the Department of Interior. It was renamed Bureau of Lands in 1906 by virtue of Act 1407. The Bureau of Lands was placed under the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) in 1916. Presidential Decree 461 was issued separating the DANR into two(2) Ministries namely: the Ministry of Natural Resources with which the Bureau of Lands was placed and the Ministry of Agriculture. Renamed Lands Management Bureau (LMB) pursuant to EO 192 of 1987.
Mandate
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through the Lands Management Bureau and DENR Field Offices is mandated to administer, survey, manage, and dispose Alienable and Disposable (A&D) lands and other government lands not placed under the jurisdiction of other government agencies.
Org. Setup
Pursuant to DAO No. 97-41, the Lands Management Bureau (LMB) started its re-engineering process by reorganizing the organizational structure to effectively and efficiently carry out its functions. Under the said Order, the LMB is headed by a Director and assisted by an Assistant Director. The director's support staff consists of a Special Assistant to the Director and the Planning and Management Staff (PMS). There are three (3) technical divisions namely: Geodetic Surveys Division, <http://lmb.denr.gov.ph/gsd.html> (GSD) Legal Division (LEGAL) and the Land Administration and Utilization Division (LAUD) while two (2) divisions project support services namely; Administrative Division (ADMIN) and Records Management Division (RMD).
